Will it ever stop?

These last two weeks have been so hard.  Levi's sensory issues have gone through the roof!  It seems like everything I try, makes him madder.  He wants a squeeze but says it hurts.  Wants a soft back rub and screams I'm hurting him.  Won't eat certain foods, gags on drinking water, changes his clothes 3 to 4 times a day because they hurt him, is back to banging his head and rubbing it on the floor.  Wants to be alone, but doesn't want me far away.  I feel like our world has been turned upside down and inside out.  I'm trying to stay calm and telling myself this usually lasts 2 to 4 weeks than it gets better again for awhile.  But I am so tired.  It's starting to really effect the other two boys.  Gavin (our youngest) is starting to do some of these things now.  He doesn't have SPD, he just sees his older brother do it so he thinks its normal.  Right now the big question is if Levi should have his own room.  It's tearing me up though, because that means Caleb will have to go down stairs or Gavin will have to go into Caleb's room.  Oh, I wish things were different.  I never thought my family would go through this.  I really could go into a hole and sleep awhile.

  1. We have a similar problem in our house with our youngest - I can't tell if he has "things" going on or if he's just imitating his older brother. I'm hoping that once school starts, life will calm down a bit and we'll be able to sort things out. I hope that's the same for you too.
Parenting these kiddos is a constant guessing game - what works one day doesn't work the next (or even the next minute!) I've found that by writing things down during the day I'm able to go back and see what the triggers might be.
    Good luck!

  2. oh and of course, I've had those days as when I just wanted to hide in my bed for the day. Moms need personal days too, right? Too bad there's not some network of moms who understand SPD who could just swoop in like a superhero and give us all a break every once in a while...

  3. Thanks Alysia! I used to write things down but stopped. I'll have to try that again. Most Moms around here aren't ready for school to start, but I can't wait. Levi needs that constant routine. And summer is so hard to do that. I always feel bad because older ladies will say enjoy these years, but I'm really hoping they go by quickly. At least to the point Levi can understand his body more. Have a great day!

  4. Hi, I found your blog on the SPD Blogger Network today. A friend recently gave me a blog award and I'm passing it on to several of the newcomer blogs on the SPD Network. It's a great group!

Hop over to http://ourlifewithspd.blogspot.com/ and I will have a post up soon with a link to your blog. You can grab the award button there if you like : )
